Results on the Survey

So, that survey I sent around to gauge interest in the Brennan Family Series. What's the results?

A good number of responses: Twenty-two people took this survey.

An overall positive, interested audience - over 77% of respondents ranked their interest in reading the series at 7 or greater (on a scale of 0, no interest, to 10, enormous interest). And nearly a third of them (7 people) chose 10!

Prices all over the board - people put in what they considered to be reasonable prices from $5 to $30! A number of people suggested prices ranging from $7 to $14. Some people didn't put a price, saying that they didn't know what was reasonable. Still, they will subconsciously know what "too expensive" is for them. If they hear the book is $24, what will they think? (I would think, "that's expensive!") If they hear it is $14, what will they think? (Hopefully they don't think that's too expensive, because that is a likely price for the books. I can't guarantee anything until the books are printed, though.) Take a recently-published (so it accounts for the recent inflation) 250-page book off your shelf and check the back cover. Most books list their retail price on the back cover, above the barcode. You may be surprised just how expensive many books are!

Interest in the whole series - I was surprised that over 36% of respondents said they would buy all 12 books. I personally like series books, but typically would want to read the first couple before splurging on the whole series. That being said, since I'm only planning to start with the first three books, the readers won't have to decide right away!

13.6% did not want to purchase any books, and 31.8% was interested in purchasing the first book or two to see what they're like. The remaining respondents said something else. Several people expressed interest in the series but said that they didn't have much time for reading at the life stage they were in.

Thoughtful comments - I appreciated everyone who left encouraging comments and shared ideas!

If you were part of the survey, thanks a lot! It was good to hear from all of you and be able to put the information to work as I made decisions about the series.
